Squalane
Hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and retinol are active ingredients that you are probably already familiar with. But have you ever heard of squalane? Read on to find out what this interesting plant-based ingredient is all about and which skin types it benefits the most.
What is squalane?
Squalane is a naturally occurring lipid found in plants such as olives and sugar cane. It is a more stable form of squalene, a substance that is naturally produced by your body. Squalene is a natural component of our skin. Around 15% of human sebum is made up of squalene. In order to use it in skincare, it used to be sourced primarily from shark liver oil. However, most companies, including us, now use a vegan version made from plant-based sources. The vegetable squalane used in cosmetics is a transparent, odorless oil, which in most cases is extracted from cold-pressed olive oil. The advantage of cold-pressed olive oil is that it retains more nutrients, which are then also contained in the squalane after extraction. Since it is so versatile and can achieve various beneficial effects, the oil is a popular ingredient in make-up products, skin and hair care. You can, for example, add a few drops of squalane to your hair to moisturize it and reduce frizz.
Plant-based oil for all skin types
The best thing about squalane? It is suitable for all skin types. Both dry and oily skin can benefit from the versatile effects of this plant-based ingredient. Due to its hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic properties, it is also a perfect ingredient for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.

Soothing: It can help to relieve redness and irritation caused by dryness.
Blemish-prone skin
Lightweight texture: Squalane has a light, non-greasy texture that is fast-absorbing without leaving an oily film. The oil is also non-comedogenic, which means it does not clog pores.
