The horse chestnut is a tree that grows to about 30 meters tall. The leaves look like long, green fingers and have long stems. Each leaflet is usually about 20 cm long. The fruit consists of a round, greenish capsule with soft spikes.
The extracts from the leaves, flowers and seeds of horse chestnut have been used in herbal medicines for centures. Their active ingredients have been well studied. The seeds of the chestnut help fight venous diseases, such as varicose veins, because they strengthen the walls of blood vessels. They are also effective for other common problems like heavy legs and calf cramps.
Horse chestnut extract has many benefits in cosmetics. It stimulates the microcirculation, gently supporting blood flow. In addition, it improves and protects the function of the capillary walls and visibly reduces swelling.
